Abstract:

In this paper, in order to understand the flow-pipe interaction more clearly, the variations on flow pattern around semi-buried pipelines due to steady current have physically and numerically been investigated. In physical modeling section, the experiments have been carried out in a flume with 10 meter length, 0.3 meter width and 0.5 meter depth using a P.V.C pipe with 6.35 cm in diameter (for different burial depth-diameter ratios). To visualize the flow patterns, the polystyrene particles with 0.4 mm in diameter and 1.05gr/cm3 in density have been used. In order to understand the phenomenon as well as possible, the whole processes of tests have been recorded using a digital camera. For the numerical simulation section, the flow field has been analyzed using a computational fluid dynamics software “FLUENT”. For the software, the governing equations are descretized using the finite volume method. Geometry and mesh production have been done using a pre-processor software called “GAMBIT”.

Numerical Investigation of Multiphase Flow in Pipelines

We present and analyze reliable numerical techniques for simulating complex flow and transport phenomena related to natural gas transportation in pipelines. Such kind of problems are of high interest in the field of petroleum and environmental engineering. Modeling and understanding natural gas flow and transformation processes during transportation is important for the sake of physical realism...

Refinement to the Existing Analytical Methods of Analysis of Buried Pipelines due to Strike-Slip Faulting

Analytical methods presented to analyze the buried steel pipelines at strike-slip fault crossing use the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The cross-section of a buried pipe that is completely surrounded by soil cannot rotate freely and would not be remained perpendicular to the bending line after deformation. So it would be better to take into consideration a rotation between the cross-section and ...

Numerical Investigation of Supersonic Nozzle Flow Separation

S EPARATION of supersonic flow in a convergent–divergent nozzle is a fundamental fluid phenomenon that affects a large variety of applications, from fuel systems to aircraft engine nozzles. When a supersonic nozzle is operated at pressure ratioswell below its design point, a shock forms inside the nozzle andflowdownstreamof the shock separates from the nozzle walls. Even though flow separation ...

Numerical investigation of steady suction control of flow around a circular cylinder

This paper numerically investigates the effectiveness of the control of steady suction on a stationary circular cylinder with several isolated suction holes on the surface at a subcritical Reynolds number. The control effectiveness as a function of the azimuthal position, spanwise spacing and suction flow rate of the suction holes on the control of the aerodynamic forces on the cylinder and the...

On Numerical Investigation of Semi-empirical Relations Representing Local Nusselt Number at Lower Nozzle-target Spacing’s

Examining the cooling rate using impingement of air jet finds a wide application in electronic packaging and micro-scale fluid heat interaction systems, While the prediction of Nusselt profile at low nozzle-target spacing is a big issue. The plot of area average Nusselt number magnitude against the nozzle-target spacing (Z/d) shows a gradual decrement in the profile upto Z/d = 1 and beyond that...
